Nationally Renowned Law Scholar Jonathan Turley on Surveillance, Civil Liberties and Privacy Issues

Before going into this, it should be noted Christ is the sovereign King who rules all governments by the power of His word, including ours. These things are not happening in a vaccuum apart from Him. With that noted, it is also important to note that Christ has given us means and tools at our disposal to influence and change government for the benefit of all. Benjamin Franklin had this to say when asked what kind of government was being formed. Franklin replied, “A republic, if you can keep it.”

Our freedoms are being eroded right before our eyes as the nation is enthralled with the likes of the Kardashian’s, obsessed with football, or we have just stuck our heads in the sand either willfully or through pure ignorance. This is no different than the Roman population being distracted with circuses, gladiatorial sport and bread before the empire succumbed to the Visigoths sacking Rome in the fifth century. This entire clip is worth watching for every American, left right, Democrat, Republican, whoever. One smart man.

Oil Spill Prompts President to Push Cap and Trade

As expected, President Obama exploited the worst environmental disaster in our nations history for the primary purpose of promoting his and the far lefts’ cap and trade energy bill. Sure, he buttered up the masses with some warm sentiments about how upset he was concerning what he has seen and the justice that must be rendered. Then he got to his real agenda: politicizing a catastrophe currently in process for energy policy.

With that said, here’s what I gathered from the President’s speech tonight on the oil crisis: in the words of our friendly, radical, self-admitted Communist, former Green Jobs Czar (appointed by President Obama I might add), Van Jones, “This movement is deeper than a solar panel! Deeper than a solar panel! Don’t stop there! Don’t stop there! We’re gonna change the whole system! We’re gonna change the whole thing. We’re not gonna put a new battery in a broken system. We want a new system. We want a new system!” (from Van Jones’ Powershift ’09 Keynote Address, Part1, Part 2, Part 3)

Insensitivity? Never Waste a Serious Crisis

In the words of Rahm Emanuel, “Never let a serious crisis go to waste. What I mean by that is it’s an opportunity to do things you couldn’t do before.”

Well, our President is certainly wasting no time to push through draconian climate and energy legislation, that’s for sure, while millions of people and a coastline are in the middle of suffering from the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history: http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=CNG.63a128958094fb519016d188cf557e83.101&show_article=1

“‘In the same way that our view of our vulnerabilities and our foreign policy was shaped profoundly by 9/11, I think this disaster is going to shape how we think about the environment and energy for many years to come,’ he told Politico.com.”

“Obama said he would be making a fresh bid to get Congress to pass a major energy and climate bill.”

Good yet odd timing, I must say, Mr. President.

Lofty Utopian Healthcare Dreams Meet Reality

The new healthcare law will pack 32 million newly insured people into emergency rooms already crammed beyond capacity, according to experts on healthcare facilities.

A chief aim of the new healthcare law was to take the pressure off emergency rooms by mandating that people either have insurance coverage. The idea was that if people have insurance, they will go to a doctor rather than putting off care until they faced an emergency.

Four major U.S. employers (AT&T, Verizon, Deere and Caterpillar) are considering dumping the health care coverage they provide to their workers in exchange for paying penalty fees to the government.  These companies currently offer health benefits to over 2.3 million employees. That is like cutting off health care for the entire city of Houston.

The reality of budgets, economics, sociology, incentive, and plain common sense about what would have worked were thrown to the wind in favor of futuristic visions of everyone getting the best health care available for free. It sounds good on paper and many of the people were well-meaning (though grossly misinformed).

Practical Effects of the Health Care Legislation

ObamaCare Day One – WSJ.com

Theory aside, practically what does the health care legislation mean for businesses and therefore individual employees of those businesses … already? Read the article above. Now, after it’s too late, does everyone see a little clearer that this legislation is merely paving the way for single payer by raising costs to the point that the average person is forced onto the new system their setting up, which was the design of the whole thing to begin with (i.e., here is Obama on record showing his true intentions for health care; do you honestly think he ever changed his position on this from then until now)? This is very unfortunate. It is also unfortunate that any reasonable economic or business discussions concerning this were essentially thrown to the wind in favor of emotional appeals and alarmist cries against anyone who opposed this of insensitivity toward the poor and disenfranchised, which is completely disingenuous and intellectually dishonest, in my opinion.

What I think this shows is that all the marketing in the world won’t “save us” at a certain point because at some point everyone has to start looking at facts. The third world countries feel a New Imperialism approaching from the West under the guise of environmentalism (which I believe is the case to a great degree), the Western public is seeing through the facade of global warming science, and there are too many other little conflicts to get anything done. Oh and to top it off, the entire conference carbon output equals that of 60 third world countries … over a year. Way to go guys … that is if you still believe carbon output is affecting the temperature of the globe.

Is That Yet Another Threat?

“The Obama administration is warning Congress that if it doesn’t move to regulate greenhouse gases, the Environmental Protection Agency will take a ‘command-and-control’ role over the process in way that could hurt business.”

Basically, unless I read that incorrectly, the Administration is telling Congress that if it doesn’t pass the cap and trade bill, the EPA is going to seize “command-and-control” power over the emissions of the country. Talk about the politics of fear being played to exert power over one of the other branches of government. That just smells undemocratic to me. Anyone else?

Obama on US Debt

Obama: Too much debt could fuel double-dip recession – Reuters.com

Our Debt as it Stands Now – TreasuryDirect.gov

“‘It is important though to recognize if we keep on adding to the debt, even in the midst of this recovery, that at some point, people could lose confidence in the U.S. economy in a way that could actually lead to a double-dip recession,’ [President Obama] said.

Hello … The Democrats are the one’s with these outrageous policies, bailouts, massive government spending, health care expenditures, the very one’s looking to expand our debt way beyond where it is now. On top of that, President Obama himself has been a huge backer of these policies, fighting tooth and nail, as well as campaigning, to make sure they are passed.

Is he back-peddling now on all the spending? I mean I hope he is, don’t get me wrong, because we need to reverse this stuff or the economy is going to get even worse. I would applaud him for doing so. It just makes you wonder what the Chinese are saying to him on his trip behind the scenes, or if he’s just talking out of the other side of his mouth. And I wonder if what they are saying to him will make any impact, if they are making economic threats of some nature. Interesting development … just trying to make sense of all of this, because, well, it doesn’t.

NBC Starting Prime Time Green Push This Week

Worth noting, if you’re an avid prime time NBC fan … I’m not, but some of you may be. Don’t get me wrong, I like a couple of shows (The Office to name one). But I do find quite a conflict of interest with all of this green talk, GE, NBC and the Obama administration ties to all of it:
