In light of the healthcare ruling, I thought this might be a good reminder. The goal, from the beginning (and it’s coming, when the weight of the current system can no longer be sustained, by design): single payer, universal healthcare. I present to you Illinois state Senator Barack Obama from 2004:
“How do we get the federal government to take care of its business? I happen to be a proponent of single payer, universal healthcare. And [there should be no reason why (what I think he said)] the United States of America is the wealthiest country in the history of the world spending 14% of its gross national product (GNP) on healthcare cannot provide basic health insurance to everybody. And that’s what Jim’s talking about when he says ‘everybody in,’ ‘nobody out’. A single payer healthcare plan. Universal healthcare. That’s what I’d like to see. But, as all of you know, we may not get there immediately. Because first we’ve got to take back the White House and we’ve got to take back the Senate and we’ve got to take back the House.”
