You said: "Are liberals so angry at our form of goverment, imperfect though it is, or the success and greed of capitalists such as the Wall Street gang, that they would destroy the country just to bring down the bad guys?"

I'll just respond with the words of a Socialist candidate for President from a little less than a century ago.

“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism, but under the name of liberalism they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program until one day America will be a socialist nation without ever knowing how it happened.” – Norman Thomas, 1927

“I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democrat Party has adopted our platform.” – Norman Thomas

Excellent comments and excerpts from the book. Thought nothing from this administration could surprise me, but this Van Jones guy: you gotta be kidding. Seems the title "Czar" is a good one for this character. As you said, one of the most worrisome things is that our president, knowing his ideology, appointed him to a top administration job. Perhaps even more unbelievable is that the same media who brought down Bush the elder for his "Read my lips. No new taxes" debacle is absolutely quiet on all of this, except for the Fox News 'right wingers.' Bush's about face on the taxes issue seems as mild as a fall day in Texas compared to the things going on in this administration. The freedom (and power) of the press to expose corruption has been a major influence in keeping our government on at least somewhat of an even keel. Now it seems the mantle has fallen on the bloggers. But the internet is a very big place. You guys should consolidate somehow into an onlline (polar opposite) MSNBC equivalent for writers and speakers who think America is still a pretty nice place to live.

Are liberals so angry at our form of goverment, imperfect though it is, or the success and greed of capitalists such as the Wall Street gang, that they would destroy the country just to bring down the bad guys? So a Marxist state would be better? It is unclear where liberals are even coming from these days. Frankly, I don't think even they know. They just seem to be so angry at real abuses by some, they want to destroy them at any cost. It seems outright hatred is distorting their beliefs and their actions. The way they vilified Sarah Palin during the presidential campaign was unbelievable. Yeah, it's hatred.

You're right. Authoritarianism is the default form of government. When a country is in chaos, people are willing to give up their freedom for stability....no need to go back in history any further than Nazi Germany.
